Ordinary people. The courage to say no.

The photo was taken in Hamburg in 1936, during the celebrations for the launch of a ship. In the crowd, one person refuses to raise his arm to give the Nazi salute. The man was August Landmesser. He had already been in trouble with the authorities, having been sentenced to two years hard labour for marrying a Jewish woman.

We know little else about August Landmesser, except that he had two children. By pure chance, one of his children recognized her father in this photo when it was published in a German newspaper in 1991. How proud she must have been in that moment.

Dear Family and Friends,

Another year is soon upon us. We are so grateful to the Lord for all He has directed us to do this 2011. We have just settled down in our new California home — and we’re loving it! It is quite a cheery, cozy home. We are thankful to the Lord for His provision. Kevin is enjoying his internship with Pastor Orman of Warner Ave Baptist Church. The church has been a tremendous blessing to us on this journey to Ireland, we are grateful to them!

We are also grateful to you all for your continued support, either by your notes of encouragement, your financial support, and/or your prayers. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We are now especially looking forward to what God has in store for us in 2012. One extra blessing for 2012 is another baby! He/she will be due in August. Maybe now people will ask whether we have triples, as they already ask if Addie and William are twins.

We initially had plans to visit Biblical Ministries Worldwide 2 week Candidate Orientation this summer, but because of the difficulty of Darleen traveling while 8 months pregnant, we will be attending the January 2012 Orientation in Atlanta, Ga, which is less than a month away! Following Orientation, we’ll return to California to finish our Internship and start deputation.

Moving out West – Sep 2011 Update

Dear Friends,

God has been directing and redirecting our path this year. Shortly after returning home from our survey trip to Ireland, we’ve been in contact with several mission boards. We have two mission organizations that we’ve talked with and have applied for: Cross World Missions and Biblical Missions Worldwide.

God now has opened the doors for us to take an internship with Kevin’s home church in Huntington Beach, California. This would be an approximate 6 to 12 month internship, which we hope to directly go to our mission board’s 2-3 week orientation summer 2012, then start our deputation process thereafter while finishing our internship with Warner Ave Baptist Church.

We are leaving for California October 18th, just a short two weeks away. Packing is commencing… loads and loads of fun! We’ll be flying out there initially. Kevin and his brother will return to drive the vehicles out West in early November. Please keep us in your prayers.

Pray for:

That we’ll be a blessing to the church
That we’ll learn a lot from our internship
Adjustments for Darleen and the little ones

Of other news, Addie is growing so tall. She says William now. It is more like, “Willa, Willa, Willa!” William is now 5-months old. He is a chunky, little guy. He simply loves to entertain with his smile! Attached is a new family picture we took just last week.

Our Baby Boy is here!

We are praising the Lord for the safe delivery of our little, precious, baby boy! He arrived two Sundays ago (May 1st) at 5:56 in the evening. The labor went smoothly! Darleen did awesome; and we’re so grateful for your prayers! God answered with a smooth and quick delivery! Thank you!

William’s first name is after his grandfather Bill Weston. William means “protector.” We especially love this name because it shares a rich history of great Williams in the past. To name a few:

William Borden of Yale

William Tell
William Tyndale
William Bradford

William’s middle name, Morris, is after his two great-grandfathers (James Morris Waltman and James Morrison)! His middle name is also named after the Scottish Morrison clan, which he is a part of!

Last Day in Ireland (for now)

Wow; what a fantastic time we have had here in Ireland. It is hard to believe that our time here is coming to an end. We have had just wonderful time as God has blessed in every way. This last week we spent touring a bit seeing the wonderful coast of Ireland. The Dingle peninsula, driving the ring of Kerry, and seeing the spectacular sight of the Cliffs of Mohr. We have made some wonderful memories. It is amazing to see all of God’s creation. The scenery is so striking and unbelievable it is hard to fathom it all at times.

Our time serving in Cork was a special blessing as well. Our Irish friends there made such an effort to make us feel welcome and at home. We didn’t want to leave when the end of our stay came. This weekend, we were also blessed visiting the Carey family in Clonmel. God is doing tremendous things in these areas. It was a blessing to be a part of it even in a small way. We are looking forward to the time when God will bring us back to this land and her people.

The countryside in Ireland is simply breathtaking! I don’t think pictures can truly capture the beauty, but here is an attempt at it:

This week has kept us three very busy. Sunday was a treat! We visited the Ballincollig Bible Church. What a tremendous group of believers dedicated spreading God’s word.

Monday was a day to tour Cork City and Blarney Castle:

We want to give a special thanks to the O’Keeffe family for their kind hospitality to us! We felt as if we had a home away from home. The Irish food was fantastic and the company was lovely! Thank you Kevin and Eileen for everything.

We have been overwhelmed by our Irish friends here. They have opened their homes and hearts. From Tuesday we have enjoyed staying with Brother Martin. What fine company. We’ve been treated with a true Irish fry. Yum! We cannot thank you enough!
